Jim was working hard to grow his business. Long hours networking his rolodex, producing high quality products, and delivering exceptional service to his customers, but he was always just a little short at the end of the month. He needed more customers, and he needed them quickly.
Are you in this situation? Would you like more customers? Here are some very simple things you can do to get your message out to a larger number of potential customers.
Write A Message That Works
Stop trying to get customers one at a time – start getting them ten at a time. Reach a larger number of your potential customers by talking to them about topics they like, in a language they understand. No, I’m not suggesting you take up Spanish or Swahili, I mean that your marketing must use terminology that makes sense to the average, uninformed customer. Don’t fill your marketing messages with buzzwords that only industry insiders can understand.
Become An Article Marketer
Write a few short (500-1000 word) articles on topics that capture the interest of your potential customers. Provide relevant and meaningful advice. Fill your article with substance, not advertising. Read it over and make sure there are no typos or grammatical errors. Don’t fill it with hype and hyperbole. Pretend your article is going to be in Time Magazine or the business section of a major metropolitan newspaper.
Once you have your interesting and helpful article written, start submitting it around the web. Newsletter editors and publishers are always looking for content to fill their pages. As an article marketer, you can provide that content. In exchange, you get high-quality links to your site and a resource box to make an offer to the readers.
Stop begging webmasters for link exchanges. Quit submitting your URL to FFA sites. If you want better Google search positioning and Page Rank, start writing short, interesting articles.
But there’s a trick.
Many publishers won’t accept articles filled with HTML tags. On the other hand, *every* publisher will accept text-based articles, so submit your articles without HTML tags and you instantly extend your reach.
There’s a Google trick too.
Everyone knows that Google loves content. Articles are spidered very quickly and can be found on Google in just a few days. Your article (with your link) on a popular page can drive thousands of targeted visitors to your website. Submitting your article to many publishers can create dozens (even hundreds) of links to your page – all counted by Google as good, quality links.
What many authors fail to consider is the fact that Google penalizes identical, keyword rich “anchor text” links. Their rationale is that “natural” links put up on sites will not be worded identically from site to site. With link manipulation comes Google penalties. Authors have complained that their links disappear from Google after a few weeks, even though the articles are still posted everywhere. This is something you want to avoid and there’s an easy way around it.
Google DOES NOT penalize identical hyperlinks when that hyperlink text is a URL. They do not consider it link manipulation, because it’s the web standard reference to an actual page.
So combine these two simple tricks and watch as your links are published on multiple websites and not punished by Google.
Increase the Number of Sites You Reach
Article submission is a tedious task. Finding the sites that want your article, creating a user account, logging in, copying and pasting your article according to each publisher’s guidelines – it can take between 3-5 minutes per site. If you want your article to go out to 50 sites, be prepared to spend several long and boring hours in front of your computer.
But there’s an easier way. Article submission can be automated. There is software you can buy and there are services to do the work for you. In my opinion, a service is the way to go.
With software, you have to manage the submission work based on a list in the product, which may or may not be updated occasionally. Article submission services such as www.articlemarketer.com are constantly interacting with publishers and editors online, and the list is constantly kept up to date.
The Article Marketer service also allows you to post your articles for distribution over time. You can post several articles at once and direct them to be distributed over the next several days or weeks. With software you have to physically sit at your computer and submit your articles on the day you want them distributed.
Software is expensive. Article Marketer offers free distribution, as well as a subscription that allows you to submit as many articles as you like for a very low price. For the price of some software, you can get many years worth of completely automated article distribution.
To recap:
Start talking to your prospects in their language.
Create interesting informative articles.
Use text based articles and URL hyperlinks to increase your Google exposure.
Sign up with an article distribution service to automate the tedious drudgework.
Get more customers – make more money.

Many writers do not understand that the online writing business is very different from the offline writing world. The economics are totally different and no amount of lobbying and noise will change that.
Sadly, because of this reason, many good writers have stayed away from the online writing business while others have priced themselves out of lucrative assignments from websites, simply because they want the offline world to be automatically transferred online.
In the bricks and mortar world of writing, top freelance writers are accustomed to single writing assignments paying them $300 at the very minimum. Rates for leading magazines can go up to $3,000 or even much higher.
Thinking that you can push a webmaster to pay you $3000 for your writing is just plain day dreaming. The realities online are very different. For starters, in the offline writing market there are a few thousand publications paying good rates to freelancer writers. In the online world there are millions of potential writing markets (and constantly growing even as you read this). The challenge in the old world is finding a way to beat other writers to assignments. In the new online writing business, the challenge is being able to handle enough clients and to do enough writing daily to make a good income.
Online writing business will tend to come in volumes and for you to make money you will need to be a fast writer. There are some techniques to speed up the writing process (which I deal with in my free short online writing business course available by sending an email to writertips at freeautobot.com) but these technique will only help to speed up a writer who already has a good speed.
Indications are that as the number of websites and blogs continue to grow at the current rate, the economics will swing in favor of the online writing business entrepreneur and rates should go up as the demand for good writers continues to far outstrip the supply. Still it is unlikely that a rate of $3000 per article will be common in the foreseeable future.
So the best thing to do is to find a way to make a good steady income from your online writing business with the current rates and the current state of affairs. Actually this is not too difficult. I know online writers who comfortably make $4,000 on a monthly basis, without too much effort and that is by getting paid less than $11 on average for their articles.
The online writing business will favor the kind of writer who leans more towards novel writing rather than the short story or article writer. This is because a novel writer thrives on writing every day and trying to increase their daily output. This is in contrast to the short story writer who waits for inspiration to write his brief piece at virtually one sitting. Or the professional freelance article writer who will tend to spend more time doing research and sending queries to publications rather than the actual writing work.
The huge advantage that the online writing business entrepreneur has is that they can use the power of the internet to guarantee a steady and constant flow of writing jobs which will leave them with lots of time to do what every writer should enjoy doing the most – writing.

How is it possible to turn an idea into the biggest online Article Archive in the world? One man did it, with the help of a great team. He did it thru perserverence and dedication. He pressed on as other wavered. When others would not take the road less traveled, he dared to blaze a new trail. Rarely do we see such standouts in our world, yet occasionally we are re-assured that all is well in the world after all. We are reminded that the American Dream is possible. While others scream past and fall short, or give up and quit, there are those willing to go the distance and press on to greater heights.
EzineArticles.com under the direction of a fearless leader, Chris Knight and more importantly a team of diehards did what no team on this planet had ever done before, a team which even grows today with the newest editor Wally. They have collected over 8,000 authors and now today over 50,000 articles in one place for all the world to see. A milestone? Yes, 50 thousand articles is an unbelievable milestone, one of many already reached and one of hundreds ahead of it. What does it mean? It means when human intent and teamwork along with steadfast resolve accept a challenge, that there are no limits. You can do anything in life you want to do, if you will simply “Will It to Be!” EzineArticles.com was nothing more than an idea, a concept; today it is the largest Article Archive on the Internet and it is growing faster and faster each day thru synergies of folks like you and I. Think about it, look what we all did. 50,000 articles, Wow. There seems to be no limit.
For you and me and as a tribute to the human race in our period EzineArticles is like a collective of the human endeavor. Expert authors each contributing a little and some a lot put for the greatest single collection of Helpful Hints for Humans ever in the history of the Internet. Think about this. No matter what you call ArticleEzine.com , it is more than that. It is many things to many people. But what is it; what makes EzineArticles.com so great? What do you think of when you see 50,000 articles and know you were part of it all? What is EzineArticles.com? it is different things to different people. The fact is that EzineArticles.com is more than just a company; “It’s a Concept.” It is whatever you want it to be. It is magic or at least it sure seems to be. What is it to you is it a:
Blue Planet Article Data Base; Article Archive of the Human Race; Article Internet Archive; Articles of the Universe; Expert Articles of Mankind; Articles of our Age; Age of Insight Articles; Expert Article Archives; Articles of the Experts; Age of Articles; Present Period Articles; Article Archive paid by Adsense; Article Archive for Expert Writers and Advertisers; Common Sense Age Articles; Your Article Archives; The Internet’s Article Library; Unlimited Common Sense; Present Period Perspectives; Author’s Article Storage; Electronic Expert Advice; What you need to know, when you need to know it; 24-hour Article Archives; Human Information Storage; Lifebytes in our Age; Society and Civilization in Written Archives; Recent Written Records; Article Anuals from Expert Authors; Constant Catalog of Consciousness; Latest List of Legitimate Logic; Article Annuals of our Age.

It was a cold October morning in Dayton, Ohio and as I left my house at 7am the skies opened up and it began to pour. It wasn’t cold enough to turn the rain into ice but it was still chilly enough that I turned on the heater. “Today was gonna be a great day, I just knew it!” That thought just kept running through my head. I was full of confidence. We were prepared.
Today we were having customers in. Not just any customer – General Motors was visiting our branch and we were going to make a presentation trying to secure all the distribution business for two of their local manufacturing facilities. We had a plan and we had rehearsed our game plan over and over.
This wasn’t small potatoes. It could mean a $4 million increase in our business. We were ready. I was 31 years old, the youngest Branch Manger working for the largest steel distribution company in the world, but I wasn’t nervous. Scared, a little bit, yes, apprehensive, a little bit. But, I was confident.
One of my most cherished mentors always said, “If you’re gonna be a bear, you ought to be a grizzly.” I was gonna be a Grizzly today I told myself. We were hungry!
Three General Motors muckety mucks came that day. The Director of Procurement; he was a tall lanky man with that corporate pin striped look and the division buyers of each of the two manufacturing plants. One buyer was short and thick with huge hairy hands and it looked like he didn’t have a neck. He reminded me of Danny Davito but he was just a little taller. The other one was average height, average looks and average dress but he was built like Arnold Swartznager. Looking at the two division buyers reminded me of the movie Twins where Arnold Swartznager and Danny Divito were twin brothers.
Looking at the the three of them brought to mind the spectrum of emotions we face as salesmen in this business. Pin Stripes intimidated meDanny D. made me laugh and Arnold scared the heck out of me.
The morning went ok. My top sales rep and I walked through much of the presentation before lunch – back then we didn’t have PowerPoint. We were following our plan. I was young, but Bud Hurst was an old pro, a lone wolf, with over 25 years of experience. During a break he told me we just didn’t seem to be reaching them. Something was missing. We weren’t in a zone. We decided to break for lunch a little early hoping with the help of a couple of Martinis (Martini lunches were ok and common back then) we could break down some of the resistance and make them feel a little more relaxed, hoping to close the deal after lunch.
So, off we go to lunch. We grabbed our suit jackets (back then dark suits with white shirts and ties were mandatory – there was no such thing as casual days — this was the late 70’s). Little did I know I was about to set a new standard of dress.
Out the door we went—-it was beautiful out. The rain had stopped, the sun was shining and it had warmed up a little. The five of us, the Director of Procurement, the twins and Bud Hurst, my top sales rep followed as I led the way to my car.
As I rounded the corner and approached my car I noticed that between me and the car was a huge puddle of water about 6 feet across and at least 3 inches deep. It really didn’t bother me much, I’d seen it before on rainy days and, in fact, I had been meaning to get it fixed. It was just one of those expenses (fixing the parking lot) that always seemed to get pushed to the bottom of the budget priority list. Besides, it was only noticeable when it rained. It was a slight indentation or minor sink hole as we say in Florida in the black top.
No big deal, RIGHT — no big deal – until that day.
As I turned, a little quick I might add, to go around the puddle, I stepped on a rock, no bigger than the size of a golf ball. But it was big enough to turn my ankle, twist it and there I went, face first, doing a belly smacker right into the 6 foot puddle. I even scraped my chin causing blood to trickle down my chin.
I was in shock
I didn't want to get up
My face was as red as a baboons behind
I was stunned
I laid there for a few secondsan eternity
I was hoping this wasn't real
Finally, I turned over, propped myself up on one hand and my two feet to keep the seat of my pants dry and I looked up at four suits, the three muckety mucks, Danny Divito, Arnold Swartznager, the Corporate Pin Striped suit and Bud, the old pro who probably thought I was wet behind the ears even before I fell into the puddle.
They were trying not to look at me
Mr. Pin stripes was covering his mouth trying desperately not to laugh
One buyer, Danny Divito was moving around like he had ants in his pantslooking in every direction but mine
The second buyer, Arnold, his cheeks were bulging out; his eyes looked like they were going to pop. He even had that big vein running down the middle of his forehead like the real Arnold Swartznager does. I swear - he must have been holding his breath
There I was, sitting in the middle of a mud puddle; I looked more like a wounded duck than a Grizzly Bear.
It was eerie; it was like a deafening silence in the parking lot. The kind of silence you saw in the Alfred Hitchcock movie, The Birds, just before they attacked.
The Director of Procurement for General Motors Corporation, Mr. Pin Stripes, the one holding his hand over his mouth started bouncing like he had a pogo stick up his behind. You know how you bounce when you hold a laugh inside.
Finally, bless his heart, old Bud, my sales rep reached down to take my hand to help me up – and as I struggled to my feed, he grinned a grin so wide he could have eaten a banana sideways and said, “Nice FALL day, isn’t it?”
Well that comment cut it loose and all four of them roared with laughter. They thought it was absolutely hilarious. And, I guarantee you, no matter how embarrassed you get, no matter how stupid you feel, when you’re standing in front of four people that are laughing so hard tears are running down their cheeks, you can’t help but laugh with them.
I dried off with my golf towel that I retrieved from the trunk of my car and even though I was soaked we went to lunch anyway. Of course that’s all we talked about during the entire lunch – I couldn’t eat from being so embarrassed and they barely stopped laughing long enough to put food in their mouths.
Alls well that ends well; we got back from lunch and within an hour closed the deal. That meant a $4 million increase in sales for our branch. I think they felt sorry for me.
After lunch tide turnedeverything we discussed seemed to lead back to my grand belly smacker
We talked about reducing inventory and someone said that would prevent tripping over it as they all roared with laughter.
Some of the parts we discussed that were to be made from our steel spurred even more laughter -parts like ankle pin, splash shield, dry lube on the parts
Our plan worked – and even through my belly smacker wasn’t in our original plan, it seemed to play a role in our success.
Many times even the best plan, the best preparation will encounter a twist in the road. The more prepared, the more confident we are, the better able we are to handle these twists. The belly flop into the parking lot puddle could have been more devastating than embarrassing. But, thanks to Bud, the sales pro, we were able to turn that most embarrassing moment for yours truly into an opportunity.
Ever since that day, I have never ever short changed maintenance and repair on any budget I was ever responsible for.
What are your puddles in the parking lot?

Relationships play a big role in our lives. In every relationship, the level of fun, communication and intimacy is different. People around us are sometimes our best teacher who will reflect to us what we need to work on the most. Here are ten points on how relationships can be beneficial to our personal growth…
1. Intimacy
Intimacy (“in-to-me-I-see”). The higher the level of intimacy, the deeper you look into yourself.
2. Learning
Relationships provide lessons for us to learn how to relate, communicate and connect with people; thus knowing more about ourselves.
3. Vulnerability
“It is the heart that’s afraid of breaking that never learns to dance.” Through the exposure of the heart it becomes alive and thus opening up to receive more of what the Universe has to teach every moment.
4. Patience
All relationships take time to build. It is very much like watching a seed slowly blossoming into a rose day by day. It requires time, effort and energy to just wait. Waiting takes patience.
5. Accountability
The people we trust and spend time with are normally the ones whom we can count on and share our dreams or ideas with. They become the angels pointing out to us when they notice we are going off-track and/or out of integrity with life.
6. Fun
Simply experiencing and experimenting life together.
7. Being real
When you are transparent with yourself and the people you love, you can basically choose to be real with ANYONE in your life.
8. Open communications
100% of all misunderstandings happen when we don’t communicate openly and cleanly. Laying harsh judgments and critics without open listening in the first place often blocks connection with another being.
9. Tonic for the heart
It matures you not only intellectually but also emotionally.
10. Respect, Honor and Love
What a sweet gift to give to another person just by learning how to honor and respect their space, time and energy…Putting out and giving them your best every moment is a practice of love itself.

You send me an e-mail. You tell me you’ve written over three hundred poems since you were 16 (in your teenage angst stage). You mention the novel you’ve completed and it’s really good (it really is!!!), and the novel-in-progress. You mention how the International Library of Poetry has published one of your poems. (But, whom haven’t they published?)
However, all your work is stored away, hidden from the public eye on a black little disk.
You have one mission: Getting published.
“How do I get published?” you finally question at the end of the e-mail.
At times, I ask myself the same question.
Is this mission impossible? To many, it seems that way. If you stick with me, I’ll make the publishing process slightly simpler.
On this mission, you’ll need three things: Goals, Guidance, and Persistence.
An unmentioned New York City college (as well as other schools, I’m sure) offered a course on “How to Get Published”. Various bigwigs from major publishing houses in New York City were guest speakers on many occasions.
A writer-friend of mine felt it would be a great opportunity to network and finally understand how to get her works published in magazines, and various books. I was hesitant, and suspicious of the course’s objectives, so I didn’t follow the friend’s lead. I was far from disappointed about my decision. You’ll soon discover why.
Getting published isn’t as hard as you think. But, when you’re a beginning writer getting published seems as difficult as James Bond jet-skiing along the River Thames with five barges heading his way.
As a beginning writer, I feel, the main priority should be getting your name out there in the public’s eye. Understand that, at times, you’ll have to accept the free issues instead of cash payment. Before you consider publishing though, you should reassure yourself a rejection slip won’t lower your self-esteem and cause you to never pick up a pen, or stroke another key at your keyboard. Hey, trust me, rejections happen to everyone! Here are a few suggestions to better your chances of getting published:
Write, Write, Write. This is the obvious one. You need to write all the time. Too many writers say, “I have a novel about . . .” And the novel sounds spectacular. But, when I ask if I can read it, offer suggestions, the writers finally admit, “Oh . . . I haven’t started on it . . . But the title of it is . . .” I despise working with an enthusiastic, talented writer who simply won’t write. Don’t waste your breath! Whatever you dowrite your work first, and then speak about it so you won’t look/feel like a fool.
Edit, Edit, Edit. If you feel your work is perfect (or as good as you can make it), keep in mindnothing is perfect! That’s what editors are for! If you are a college student, ask a professor to read it at his/her leisure. If you’re already in the workforce, ask a well-read co-worker to edit it. Or, since you’ve some extra cash to spare, hire an editor. Many places, like OutStretch Publications, for instance, offer extremely reasonable prices for editing/proofing services.
Share Works with Others. This is when a workshop comes in handy. Studentstake a creative writing course. Or, if you’re not in school, give copies to about 5 or 6 acquaintances in advance. Then, schedule a “reading” at your place. Allow the guests to give suggestions and talk about your work as if you’re not there. Remember, all criticism is helpful criticism. Remember to ask questions about the shaky portions of your work.
Websites: Build a website and add your writing to it. Or, even easier, find some of the online places like poetryboard.com, or some of the AOL bulletin boards where writers you don’t know can critique your work, and people like me (who have a publication) may find your work and ask for your approval for publication. (This is a very rare occasion, but it does happen.)
Here’s the TRICK: Mass Mailings! If you happen to see 2, 3, 4, or even 5 publications that don’t mind simultaneous submissions and accepts work similar to what you’ve written, send your work to all of them. Sure, sending out a mass mailing of submissions will guarantee more rejections, but you also better your chances of getting published. Remember, include SASE with each submission or 9 times out of 10 you’ll never hear from the publisher/editor. (Some publishers like you to include your e-mail address nowadays for quicker responses.)
Keeping Track. Keep track of all of your submissions. Be organized. A simple database program is perfect. In the database, list 1) the date you submitted work, 2) the publication and its address, 3) the works you submitted, and 4) the date you receive an acceptance/rejection slip. If, for some reason you DO get a rejection slip. So what? Just think of it like this: Perhaps the publication wasn’t right for your writing. Better still, everyone has his or her own opinion, so the editor simply didn’t favor your particular style. Someone else out there probably appreciates your style of writing. Perhaps your submission was received past their deadline. Big deal. Send it somewhere else! Remember, though, writing can always be improved.
Now that you’ve read this, let me tell you something. This is everything my writer-friend learned from the writing course. Seems simple, eh? And, what’s even better, unlike my friend, you didn’t have to pay a course fee!
This mission doesn’t seem so impossible now, does it?
Grab the goals of getting published, the guidance I just gave, the persistence with mass mailings and get yourself published.
Good luck with your publishing endeavors!

The fearful, ignorant guy has got a blog on the Internet. It must be easy!
Of all people in the world I was easily one of the most pessimistic about computers, the Internet and now that I even know they exist-blogs. I think blogs are pretty cool but I never thought I could have one. I thought the processes of getting a site; domain name and the actual building of the blog would just be out of my league. I’m a complete novice when it comes to technology, but I do like writing a journal, and I thought having a journal on-line would be both fun and make life simpler for me. No more writing with pens, other people can read my stuff and comment on it, and I could add pictures to illustrate my points and make things look more interesting.
Well, now I’ve got one! It’s awesome. I won’t lie and say it was easy, but I think if you hook up with a good web hosting company it’s not such a daunting experience as you might expect. I got a few work mates to help me. I went through a couple administrative hitches when filling in my personal information forms for the registration-just because I’m a bit silly in the head. We had a little trouble with the blog program we used, but these challenges were eventually overcome. My boss says he’s going to make a simple program that people can hook up easily.
I chose my domain name: thepowerofeverythingthatis.com. It’s my own name-no one else on Earth can have it. I own it. I picked a nice picture out for the background-it looks really sweet, much better than a blank sheet in a diary. I got it from a site that gives photos out without charging a royalty (the first few): www.istockphoto.com.
I just want you to know the great feeling I got when I first typed in my domain name and my site came up! It was the equivalent to a person who’s afraid of heights being accepted into an astronaut’s mission into outer space. Or maybe it was like a turtle driving a Ferrari 300km per hour. Possibly it was like all the ants in the world getting together for peace talks.
It’s a real blast having this blog. I can write on it any time, anywhere, from my laptop, at an Internet café etc. I can write as much as I want, and I’m hoping one day my writing may inspire others to communicate with me about the subjects that I’m interested in.
Look, if you like writing about anything, and want to have your thoughts and opinions on the Internet, maybe meeting others similar to yourself in the progress; you have to get a blog and get it now. Don’t be afraid any longer, the world is in the palm of your hands; it’s time to get on!

When I lie here safe in your warm arms Defenseless at the mercy of your charms A weakling I turn staring into your eyes I lose my strength in this new paradise
This paradise of encircling warmth I love For it’s cool as the rainfall from above That falls upon my skin and makes it shine Knowing that you’re always mine and fine
When I lie here safe in your strong arm Though I’m weak but I’m safe from harm I feel my bones turn into water and flow My dead feelings gently kindle and glow
This glowing feeling compares to the galaxy For it always brings me closer to sweet ecstasy When I lie here safe in your soothing arms Boneless, defenseless at your irresistible charms

When I was recruiting a call center staff for a Fortune 500 company, one of my associates fielded an inquiry from an applicant, and then handed the phone to me.
“The job sounds interesting,” the caller said, and then she whispered, “But is there a window?”
“A window?”
I wasn’t sure about what she meant.
“Is there a window in your call center? Can you see out, when you’re calling? I have to have a window, or I’ll go crazy!”
I told her there was a window, with a beautiful view of the parking lot, but she had to be standing next to the copier to see it.
“Sorry, that won’t do. Bye!”
Well, you have to hand it to her. She knows the conditions under which she works best.
Can you say the same thing about yourself?
For instance, do you think you would make more sales if you were asked to make cold calls from your own, private office or while seated in a bullpen with a number of other people around you?
I believe 90% would do better while seated in a bullpen, but a very small percentage would realize it.
Here’s my reasoning:
(1) We think privacy is superior, and that peace and quiet will facilitate intimacy with customers. Not so, peace and quiet will probably make you timid, and reluctant to dial the next number. The corner office will confer more status, but fewer sales.
(2) When we’re selling together, it’s like hunting in a pack. We’re more outgoing and we don’t want to let each other down.
(3) By being within view or earshot of others we are pressured to make the next call, and the one after that. Without that pressure, we can lapse into needless contemplation of our navels.
(4) We crave reinforcement, and when we do something well, publicly, we get it, and quickly. It’s no fun celebrating alone.
(5) Work is, in part a social outlet. When my former professor, Peter F. Drucker, used to comment about retirement, he said most folks who hang up their spurs don’t miss the work, itself. “It’s the gossip they miss,” he mused.
So, if you have a choice, pull up a cubicle and sell next to someone else. Not only will you keep each other company; you’ll probably both make more sales!
